It comes time to do a little promotion for the best [and cheapest] places to eat in downtown Portland. Plus some other random things. This is not a ranked list. I just listed them as I remembered them.
1. City Coffee - smoothest coffee i've ever had to date, and they also make those delicious muffins with the jelly stuff inside. Very chill and relaxed, although it's right in the heart of the city. Nevertheless, their coffee is cheap and you'll find me there at least once or twice a week indulging in the goodness of my ever present caramel latte. DELICIOUS.
2. Chit Chat Café - Quirky little Asian place with random couches. 94/7 is constantly on, which is an added bonus, and they are the only place around who make honeydew smoothies with real fruit chunks. Yes, it does sound as if someone is about to hurl, but man, it is GOOD. Their smoothies and orange chicken on brown rice is what I go there for, although they do have jelly.
Why do I keep mentioning jelly? Haha.
3. Coffee Time - Yes, it does belong first on this list. But this is NOT A RANKED LIST, therefore I can still say that it is my favorite of all. Delicious, cheap coffee and amazing brownies. They have artwork on the walls, and are open until the wee hours of the morning. Conveniently located in the Northwest Burnside neighborhood, it is teeming with an indie vibe, and it has to be the "chillest" place in North Portland. Agh...I love this place so much.
4. Portland City Grill - Although quite expensive and somewhat fancy, it has a breathtaking view of Portland. You won't find a view like this anywhere else. It's located on the 30th (ish) story of a building downtown, and if you're deathly afraid of heights as I am, this will make you forget all about it. Seriously. Worth the money and all the time in the world. Let's all go in our pajamas! Haha.
5. Food for Thought Café- Located in the Smith Memorial Student Union at PSU, this is an upbeat and enticing treat. They have delicious items to offer, live acoustic music (many times there is an open mic night), and there are always people there who inspire you and amaze you. Then again, I have seen some creepers there before, and oh, man....they can't get any weirder. Totally recommend it, and if you're been to Coffee Time before, this place will remind you of it in so many ways.
More to add later. I'll keep you posted with new and recent findings every so often. :)
Also, DO NOT EAT at the "Healthy Asian Grill" at Portland State University. It's one of those little stands out in the park. I usually don't badmouth these sorts of places, but honestly, I am saving your life. Reasons?
- it's definitely not Asian (run by a Hispanic family)
- the chicken isn't chicken
- not healthy in the slightest
- I was overcome with nausea and stomach cramps about an hour after eating there. Bleh.
Ooh...and I just got seven free bottles of the new Venom energy drink. It's freaking delicious. GET SOME.
